Lorraine Granado was an environmental justice hero who dedicated her life to fighting for Swansea. Through her leadership with the Cross Community Coalition, she helped secure critical resources and hold polluters accountable. The park that now bears her name was established after Lorraine and other community members won a landmark settlement following an oil tanker spill that released contaminants into the air in the mid-1990s.

Today, Lorraine Granado Community Park has fallen into disrepair, but Confluence Colorado is partnering with residents to restore it in her honor. The project is guided by a Steering Committee of local residents, including Swansea community member Vivian Cervantes.

The Steering Committee meets monthly, engaging residents who are eager to see the park brought back to life. Early successes, such as the installation of a new shade cover, demonstrate the committee’s commitment and capacity to create lasting, positive change in the neighborhood.

Confluence Colorado and Swansea residents are surveying the GES community to understand how Lorraine Granado Community Park is used and what improvements are desired. Your feedback will guide future park designs to reflect our community’s needs. Please complete this brief, important survey.
